Guide: Request Ownership of a Business Profile on Google

Managing your business profile on Google is essential for enhancing its visibility and attracting potential customers. However, what if your business profile hasn't been created yet, or you find yourself in a situation where the profile is already verified? Fear not! Whether your business profile needs creation or ownership transfer, we've got you covered. In this guide, we'll walk you through the process step by step, ensuring a smooth transition of ownership and control over your business profile.

Option 1: Create your Google My Business

Creating your Google My Business profile is the easiest and most straightforward option if your business profile hasn't been set up yet. Simply head over to Google My Business and follow the step-by-step instructions provided by Google to create your business account. This platform allows you to manage your business information, interact with customers, and gain valuable insights to enhance your online presence.

Option 2: Your profile is already created and you need to claim it

If your business profile has already been created but not claimed, don't worry, you can still take control of it. Follow these steps to claim ownership:

  1. Visit business.google.com/add or find your business on Google Search or Google Maps.
  2. Under the Business Profile, click "Claim this business."  If absent, search for a “You manage this business profile” badge on your profile.
  3. Follow the prompts and fill out the form to request ownership.
  4. Monitor the status of your request through your Business Profile or confirmation email.
  5. If approved, you'll gain access to manage the profile. If denied, you can suggest edits and potentially appeal the decision.

Here are some scenarios that can happened as well :

If you have No Response after 3 Days:

  • You may have the option to claim the profile yourself.
  • Open the original confirmation email and follow the instructions to verify ownership.

Understanding New Owner & Manager Limitations:

  • New owners or managers must wait 7 days before accessing all features.
  • During this period, they may encounter errors if attempting certain actions.
  • Deleting or undeleting a profile, removing other owners or managers, or transferring primary ownership is restricted.
  • If the new owner or manager deletes their account within the first 7 days, they are removed from the profile.

Tip:

  • If an existing owner or manager tries to transfer primary ownership during the new owner's first 7 days, they'll encounter an error.

By following these steps, you'll be able to efficiently claim ownership of your existing business profile on Google and start managing it effectively.
